PR Pitch of the Moment! Fashion Wednesday Edition! David -- Since I havent heard back from you about my prior email, I thought Id follow up. Im writing to suggest a story or blog post for TVexchanger on a great topic: What are the biggest fashion mistakes that startup entrepreneurs make? Tech CEOs know not to wear suits, because they want to be seen as innovative and fresh; and CTOs want to dress with whats most comfortable. But the flip side is that this set needs to look like they can also be trusted with a lot of VC money. Many young professionals are faced with the sudden task of having to look presentable but still keeping their personal, independent style. Based on years of experience working with brands such as Macys, Nautica and Under Armour and running a top apparel business in the heart of New York Citys Fashion District, Sim Gulati has found some of the top mistakes tech leaders make that undermine their own personal style. These include: 1. The shower flip flops Your college years are long gone - And so should those sandals that belong at the beach and not the boardroom. This goes for Crocs. Instead, opt for super nice sneakers - the more colorful the better. 2. Dont wear your pajamas It doesnt matter if Zuckerberg did it. Its still a major faux pas to show up in your panda pant PJs to your VCs office - or even to your own office. Opt for nice skinny jeans and a pressed shirt. 3. Wrinkled slacks paired with hiking boots If youre gonna wear slacks, they must be presentable. This means ironed and pressed. Chinos work great because theyre easy to own and wear. Leave the hiking boots for those weekend mountain trips. 4. Offensive T-shirts Youre not in high school, and you dont want to offend half your staff with a ridiculous message on your chest. Leave the jokes out of your clothing and out of HR. 5. Spending too much on nice clothes Find nice clothing for great prices by finding alternatives. For example, the average pair of Chino Pants is $130, but you can find high quality Chinos that cost just $38, by Barley & Britches. Sims The EveryDay Chino - the worlds first $38 pair of upscale Chinos - is being launched through Kickstarter campaign going live November 18. A preview of the page is available here (for your eyes only): kickstarter/projects/1022959772/1168026880?token=fb5b62a8 Im happy to send you a pair to check out and review. I can also help arrange an interview on this topic with Sim Gulati about the perfect wardrobe for a tech entrepreneur. He is available for phone, Skype or email interviews this week (Nov. 11-15). If youre interested in a guest blog post from Sim, let me know as well. Thanks, CP
