PRANA – THE DAILY YOGA #8 The basic drive of any warrior is to uphold “right” and defeat the “wrong”. Warriors are energetic souls; they embody qualities of strength, courage and determination. According to Hindu mythology (specifically the Mahabharata), distraught by his wife’s death, myth tells that Shiva created the fiercest warrior from a bead of sweat on his forehead. This warrior’s name was Virabhadra, and Shiva set him out to destroy those who had caused the death of his beloved Sati. Today, I introduce the Warrior’s Pose, commemorating the exploits of a mythical warrior. WARRIOR POSE II (VIRABHADRASANA II ) 1. Stand with legs 3 to 4 feet apart, turning right foot out 90 degrees and left foot in slightly. 2. Bring your hands to your hips and relax your shoulders, then extend arms out to the sides, palms down. 3. Bend right knee 90 degrees, keeping knee over ankle; gaze out over right hand. Stay for 1 minute. 4. Switch sides and repeat. BENEFITS • Strengthens the muscles of the back. • Tones the muscles of the abdomen. • Improves digestion. • Strengthens and stretches the hip flexors, ankles and legs. *Message my inbox in case you require any clarification. Suggestions are welcome. The recommended yogic poses are best done under supervision and guidance initially. -- Priya
