PRAYER: Father, I dont know what to do. I try to find work, but nobody wants to hire me after they meet me. They like my resume, and they get excited when I talk to them on the phone. However, I see it Lord, when they meet me in person. They see that Im not young anymore, even though Im not really old. As time passes, Lord, I get more discouraged. The bills are stacking up, and Im getting close to losing everything. Now, even some people at Church are starting to avoid me. I know my circumstances are becoming too overwhelming for them to hear or think about, as they dont know how to fix my problems. I try not to burden them with it anymore. So, Ive been keeping to myself. Yet, Lord, the isolation and sense of being lost in uncertainty; IT IS MORE THAN I CAN BEAR ALONE! Please, Lord, give me strength. I need to feel Your presence, as I am tormented. The enemy wants me to feel obsolete. He wants me to feel abandoned by You. He wants me to give up. INSTEAD, Im looking to You, Oh, God. Whatever Your plan for me might be, I will never deny You as Lord of my life. Though people might not give me a chance again to support myself, Im just going to keep trusting You. Though I might become an outcast at Church and elsewhere, I will cling to You and declare You to be my hearts desire through my dying breath. Whatever worldly opportunities might pass me by, I thank You, God, for the opportunity to not be excluded from Your Kingdom. May I serve You, Lord, on the day that You call me home. Amen! PERSPECTIVE: Unfortunately, nowadays, it would be safe for you to ASSUME that the type of prayer you see above is privately being lifted up by someone near to you. Not my prayer, BUT it is the heart of someone I know, personally. I also see plenty of it in the prayer requests that I receive from other good, smart, qualified, capable, and faithful people; MANY being overlooked for gainful employment because of age. I see them, broken in means and heart, as their encouragers give up and distance themselves. I could talk about other groups that are struggling (and I will). Today, though, it is on my heart to represent this special class of people that I feel are too much at risk of being forgotten and lost. CALL TO ACTION: We need to NOT give up on them. We need to not just pray for them. We need to network to help them find work. Those of you in a position to hire them; PLEASE be open to giving them a chance. Reach out to them. Finally, we need to care for them. None of our able and willing older brothers and sisters in Christ, particularly those right in front of us, should go hungry or homeless. CHRIST-DRIVEN: Whatever action this inspires, let it NOT be out of shame. May it be purely be out of greater awareness and, therefore, increased desire in your heart to be attentive to others; just as Christ wants you to be (see Matthew 25:31-46). CONNECT: Whether you declare this as your prayer OR you simply care about those that are praying it; then PLEASE use comments as an opportunity to share and encourage one another. Blessings!
