PRAYER GUIDE – SEPTEMBER 2013 Proverbs 18:21 - the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Partners in prayer, This month I believe could be the launch of a transforming season of life for you and our church. Won’t be an easy journey. Actually I want to extend and take deeper the recent Sunday morning theme having to do with the power of our words. If the Bible says, ‘the tongue has the power of life and death’ I think that is worth considering. A lot. Deeply. If we get it right and God’s Spirit begins a new work in us in this arena – we can transform the cycle of death and become individually and together as Jesus’ church, agents of life. I think that is worth the pursuit. So this month if you are stepping into this prayer guide – fair warning - that’s where we are headed. Martin September 1. Read Philippians 2:12-16. Enough here to focus a couple of days on. So today settle in on verse 12. Notice first Paul did not say ‘work for your salvation.’ No guilt here. (See- in fact I recommend memorize, Romans 8:1.) ‘Work out your salvation.’ Implication is that salvation is not an event – of course it has a start – but it is not just an event – it is a process. Jesus said it is being born anew. Every new life has a destiny. True also and even especially your new life in Christ. But unlike flowers, trees, shrubs and the like – we make choices that influence that process. For good or ill. So today think and talk to God today about how you particularly and purposefully are engaged in ‘working out your salvation.’ (I would suggest you start first with thanking Him for it!!) Allow the Spirit to direct you if there were some particular ‘work outs’ He would have you engage in in a more disciplined way. And since we are dealing with our words – allow the Spirit to do an honest inventory on how your salvation might be working its way out through your words. Pray today also for our church as we enter a new season of ministry that our worship times together, events, groups, studies, serving, prayers, etc. would result in fact in our salvation being ‘worked out’ in our life together as Christ’s church.
