PRAYER REQUEST Aloha friends and family, First off I apologize about how long this is, I will try and make a long story short which is very hard for me, but this is our prayer request. This Nov. 13, Gracie (age 15) my third child of 5 was diagnosed with a brain malformation. It is called Chiari type 1 malformation. This has all happened rather quickly. We have already been to Oahu since the diagnoses to see the neurosurgeon, and will be going back this coming Monday and Tuesday to get more MRIs and to see both the neurologist and neurosurgeon. We will possibly have to go back several more time in the near future to see other doctors. This is something Gracie was born with, and we did not know she had. Some of the symptoms she has had for quite a while is chronic headaches, sore eyes, and a bit of a balance problem. If you know us well enough a running joke in our house is the fact that grace trips over her own feet a lot and I teased that it was the curse of the name, Grace. Recently over the last 3 months she has had 4 vertigo episodes which is why I took her to the doctor thinking it was an inner ear infection, because shes a swimmer and has been in the pool 3-4 days out of the week, if not more since she was 9. I hate to have to tell you all this way, but it has only been a little over a week since her diagnoses and we are already tired of talking about it. We are all still trying to make sense of all this and dont have answers to many of the questions; with that said, we ask that if you would like to know what Chiari type 1 malformation is, that you would look it up on the internet and read more about it. Know that we are all doing pretty good considering the fact we have been told it is quite possible she will need brain surgery, because her particular case is pretty extreme. Grace is in good spirits, again if you know Grace at all she is a very strong girl who rarely ever shows weakness. This is a girl who is an exceptional athlete and knows how to push through pain in order to complete a race. She has done two sprint triathlons, a handful of open water swims, and tons of running race with me before 15 years of age. She has also been on Mokihana Aquatics swim team since 9 and swims and runs cross country for Kapaa High school. I dont share these things to boast, well kinda, Im her mom and her endurance in everything she does amazes me. These are our specific prayer needs presently: • that her next MRI doesnt show spinal damage which would mean an additional procedure in surgery. • for grace, because this MRI will take 3 hours. • there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding this malformation, so Cory and I need prayer for wisdom and discernment on decisions regarding surgery. • I would also ask that you would pray for Grace and all of us that we all have strength through this, like I said its only been about a week and we are exhausted, this is going to be a marathon not a sprint!! • Pray that Grace doesnt have any more or accelerated symptoms that appear while we wait to know what happens next • that the Lord would continually fill us with his peace everyday. We will keep you undated via email or social media unfortunately this is the easiest way to do this. We know God is faithful and has always been, thank you for your prayers!
