PRAYER TIME I don’t know why everyone is praying now. A man is passing through the door into the next life, what is there to pray about? That he not pass? Or that he pass safely? Or is it for something else, another one of him perhaps? And that in his passing there will be no violence? That’s a good prayer, I would pray it too, but mostly I would just pray let him go, and thank you for taking him, thank you for giving him to us, thank you for his life and his long life among us. Apart from that I would pray God help us for what lies ahead and God help us without him. One man in the world who people listened to. One man they respected. One man they feared. One man who changed a world and gave the world meaning. They say there is no perfect man, no saint. But I say there is Jesus and I say there is Mandela. If Mandela could be Jesus to us, why can’t we? Maybe we should pray harder.
