PREMIER LEAGUE ON WITH OR WITHOUT A SPONSOR It is yet to be seen whether the premier league will kick-start without a sponsor. Botswana Premier League (BPL) recently announced that talks with be Mobile had collapsed and the board of governors resolved to go and seek another partner who would sponsor the league. BPL chief executive officer, Bennett Mamelodi said in an interview that the league and the sponsor were two different things, and therefore, the league would continue with or without a sponsor. He said what should be borne in mind was the fact that, the board approved fixtures with the league scheduled to start on August 8. “Therefore, nothing will change. Mind you, the fixtures are only approved by the board of governors, and if they have given the fixtures a green light, It means the league will continue” he said However, Mamelodi said the league was currently in discussion with various potential sponsors and they had gone into the market to look for long term partners who would share their vision with that of the league. The CEO said although their talks with be Mobile had collapsed, they had since re-opened them, but he was quick to point out that there were other potential sponsors that they were considering, adding further that, they would weigh options. Although Mamelodi was cagey with details, information reaching BOPA suggested that, BFA had since told the premier league to sort out their differences with be Mobile and re-negotiate. be Mobile rescued the elite league in 2008 after Munhumutapa African Broadcasting Corporation(MABC) kept the league in suspense, after promising to sponsor it with P60 million. BTC then splashed a sum of P15 million for three years and in 2011, they renewed the contract increasing the sponsorship to P24 million for three seasons. The fixtures show that Motlakase Power Dynamos will travel to Maun where they will battle it out with the new comers, Sankoyo Bush Bucks at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Letlapeng will play against Orapa United at Molepolole Sports Complex at 3 p.m and after that game BDF X1 will take on Ecco City Greens still at at Molepolole at 7 p.m. A mouthwatering encounter is expected at Lobatse Complex when Extension Gunners meet Mochudi Centre Chiefs ,the game will be played in an empty stadium. This came about after Gunners were found guily for holigamism. Gaborone United will play against Notwane at UB Stadium. FC Satmos will date BR Highlanders at Selebi Phikwe. On Sunday, BMC will travel to Selebi Phikwe, where they will have a date with Nico United while Police XI will face Township Rollers. These other games start at 3 p.m. (BOPA)
