PREMIER LEAGUE WEEK TEN PREDICTIONS Stansy Sport brings you the prediction of matches in the English Premier league every week. Each week’s prediction will be anchored by Yemiojo and will face new guests for the predictions every week. There would be points for each week’s predictions for the guest predictor to know how he or she faired. A match is 3 points comprising of a correct result which is 1 point and a perfect score which is 2 points making a total of 3 points for a match. There will be two guests for this round of Premier League matches and the two will go head to head with Yemiojo. They are ABIODUN BAMBO JOSEPH ARSHAVIN and LAWRENCE EBEN SUAREZ. Abiodun is an Arsenal fan while Lawrence is a Liverpool fan whose teams face in the top of the table clash this weekend. Abiodun is a graduate of Ekiti State University, and a serving Youth corper in Nigeria. He supports Arsenal because of the pattern of play they club adopted which is the best in the Premier League till date. In his predictions for this weekend’s fixtures, he predicts an outright win for his darling club Arsenal over Liverpool in the match of the weekend. He predicts a Swansea win in the first ever Welsh derby in the Premier League over Cardiff City and thinks Chelsea will continue their fine run with a win at Newcastle. Lawrence is a final year student of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, he supports Liverpool because of the spirit they adopted in football, which is a never say die spirit. In his predictions, he also predicts a win for his club Liverpool at Arsenal, he also predicts a five-goal thriller in the first ever Welsh derby in the Premier League between Cardiff City and Swansea. You can see their full predictions below. The results of last week’s prediction saw Yemiojo got SEVEN results right with ONE perfect score for a total of NINE points which was enough to beat last week’s guest Ahmed, who got SIX results right with ONE perfect score for a total of EIGHT points. Check below to find out the results of each guest, the prediction leader board and a prediction table showing how the Premier League table will look like if the predictions have gone the way of Yemiojo and the guests. WEEK TEN PREDICTIONS Yemiojo Abiodun Lawrence Saturday Newcastle v Chelsea 2-1 1-2 1-3 Fulham v Man Utd 1-1 1-1 2-2 Hull City v Sunderland 2-1 2-0 1-2 Man City v Norwich 3-0 3-1 3-1 Stoke City v Southampton 1-2 0-0 1-1 West Brom v Crystal Palace 2-0 2-0 3-0 West Ham v Aston Villa 2-1 1-2 1-1 Arsenal v Liverpool 3-1 3-1 1-3 Sunday Everton v Tottenham 2-1 1-1 2-1 Cardiff v Swansea 1-2 0-2 2-3 MATCH PREVIEWS Saturday NEWCASTLE v CHELSEA St JAMES PARK 13:45 Two late goals during last round of matches worked for and against these two teams. Newcastle United was beaten at Sunderland with a late goal and Chelsea defeated Manchester City with a late Torres goal at Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United played better in that game and Alan Pardew actually rued that last minute punch from Sunderland, but there are a lot of positives from the squad ahead of Chelsea’s visit and he has had a whole week to prepare for that. I see a potential in that squad and if they he can be successful in bringing them together the more, I see them finishing in the top ten this season. Chelsea on the other hand was poor against Manchester City but luck was on their side. You will know from the jubilation of Jose Mourinho immediately after that goal that he celebrated the luck ha was cheaply given not the goal itself. I still do not see the reason why Frank Lampard will be on the field and Juan Mata on the bench, the earlier the better he realizes that it might soon work against the team. The midfield would have been more creative if Mata had started that match against City, because the lack of creativity actually made Torres to come in search of the ball in the midfield which actually led to their first goal. He visits a Newcastle side that will hardly give you a room to operate in the midfield; they are strong on the ground and in the air and that will make life difficult for Chelsea. I will settle for a Newcastle win here though Chelsea might be as lucky as they were against Manchester City. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 2-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 1-2 Lawrence’s Prediction: 1-3 FULHAM v MANCHESTER UNITED CRAVEN COTTAGE 16:00 Fulham have been on a mixed run of form and Martin Jol must have been thinking the reason behind that. One would have expected them to put up a better performance against Southampton last weekend, but the way they played made the win over Crystal Palace more of a fluke. I believe Jol is trying on the squad and this is the time to tell the players to sit up and face the challenges ahead of the team or else, I see them fighting their lives out in the relegation zone. Manchester United on the other hands seems to be getting some encouragement from their recent forms of victories and that is a major boost for the manager David Moyes who is under a serious pressure at the moment. He seems to be getting things right now when it comes to rotating his squad for every match but he still need to bring out the best in the squad by asking the players to put their hearts on the line for the success of the team. They visit Craven Cottage on Saturday, a place where they have struggled in the past, even under Sir Alex Ferguson, they will need to bring up their A-game if they are to get a win here because Fulham seems to need the victory more than they do. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 1-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 1-1 Lawrence’s Prediction: 2-2 HULL CITY v SUNDERLAND KC STADIUM 16:00 This is one match that football pundits will find hard to predict, Sunderland are on a revival mission while Hull City seems to be the strongest team in terms of physical approach to games. I was unable to predict a win for Sunderland in their last two games because I do not know much about their new manager, but having seen the win over Newcastle in the Tyneside Derby, I think he is on a mission to reviving Sunderland’s season and save the club from collapsing. He gave Sunderland their first win of the season and it came at the Stadium of Light. That is a confidence boost for a team that has lost what they are made of. I think he needs to settle down fast now and save the club from relegation, they have what it takes to stay up but the problem is how to bring it out. Hull City will need to be on their guard here, they are the strongest team in the League at the moment but they need to start converting their chances in front of goal. They have made an impression so far and they are still in for the best as the season gets into its prime. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 2-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 2-0 Lawrence’s Prediction: 1-2 MANCHESTER CITY v NORWICH ETIHAD STADIUM 16:00 I think it is time for Manuel Pellegrini to hit the nail on the head on the issue of Joe Hart. I think it is time for him to find a replacement for him because the club cannot continue like this. It is just stupid for one man to destroy the labour of ten people who were busy running up and down the field for full ninety minutes; it was just a weird scene to behold. I did not think Nastasic actually called him to come out of his gal to pick up the ball, he was just childish on that night, and I could not imagine an under-14 goalkeeper to have performed that way. The way Mourinho jubilated in that win shows that he was not even expecting a win as the match was drawing to a close, but he got the winner on a platter of one stupid mistake from an international goalkeeper. Manchester City played a balanced game on that day and they deserved at least a point from that match but it ended in a way they never imagined. It has now gotten to a point where the coach should take a bold step and bring in a replacement for him and may be that will bring out the best in him. As it stands at Norwich City, I see Chris Hughton losing his job soon if he does not bring out the best in the squad. I’ve said this before that they need a striker that will complement the work of the midfielders, they are currently missing the services of Grant Holt and I still do not know the reason why he was sold to Wigan. They face a huge task in denying Manchester City a win here, and to achieve that they must be ‘crazy’ in front of goal. I’m going for an outright win for City. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 3-0 Abiodun’s Prediction: 3-1 Lawrence’s Prediction: 3-1 STOKE CITY v SOUTHAMPTON BRITANNIA STADIUM 16:00 Someone told me when I was watching the last game Stoke City played against Manchester United, he said and I quote that ‘even when Mark Hughes was in charge of Blackburn Rovers, he will always be close to a win when he is playing against United, but he never got one’. It was happening under Ferguson then, but now it happened under David Moyes. I still can’t believe they lost that match against United; it was evident that they were the better side and yet he was unable to hold on till the end for the three points. All is not well with Stoke at the moment and I believe they should have gotten over the transition from Tony Pulis era to the Mark Hughes era. Now that they face a Southampton side who are currently flying high every week, and it will be too early for Mark Hughes to put his job on the line. He is not a manager that I can put my money on but I expected more from him at Stoke. It has been good so far for Southampton in the League and I think they are gaining confidence day after day, week in week out, and that is good for the club and the manager in particular. Seems people don’t know that they possess one of the deadliest attacking forces in the League, and they have the potential of bringing down any team at any given time. Stoke might actually be solid in all departments of the field on that day but I will still go for a Southampton win; probably it will make Mark Hughes sit tight. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 1-2 Abiodun’s Prediction: 0-0 Lawrence’s Prediction: 1-1 WEST BROM v CRYSTAL PALACE THE HAWTHORNS 16:00 This is a match that will indeed further confine Crystal Palace to the bottom of the table, I don’t see them getting anything out of this match because the team is on a big downtime at the moment and it will take a good performance to take off this West Brom side who have been on a very good run of form in recent times aside from the battering they received last week at Anfield. West Brom seems to have discovered their form again and they have been solid at home since they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. Steve Clarke must have spoken sense into the team and they are now putting in all they’ve got to into their matches. The confidence boost they got from that win over Manchester United must have been the catalyst of their recent form and I strongly support them to beat Crystal Palace at the weekend. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 2-0 Abiodun’s Prediction: 2-0 Lawrence’s Prediction: 3-0 WEST HAM v ASTON VILLA UPTON PARK 16:00 I want to believe that the on and off process that West Ham seems to have adopted this season must have been giving manager Sam Allardyce a point of concern, when you think they will build on a win that is when they lose they next.one will imagine that they will build on the win they had over Tottenham at White Hart Lane, but they went off instead. I don’t want to believe that the problem is down to the manager but the lack of commitments of the players towards the so called smaller teams. They tend to give their best when they face the top teams and then switch off when it comes to the smaller teams, and that kind of notion can’t guarantee you a top ten finish in the League. Their opponent this week almost shares the same kind of problem with them. Aston Villa also does not usually follow their big wins with another one. They have gotten two wins so far over the top four clubs and yet they find themselves at the bottom half of the table, the team needs to wake up to the challenges ahead as they head to Upton Park. Both teams need this win and they will approach the match like the way they will approach a final and that should make the match an interesting one. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 2-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 1-2 Lawrence’s Prediction: 1-1 ARSENAL v LIVERPOOL EMIRATES STADIUM 18:30 This is in no doubt the match of the weekend, this is the match that will determine if these sides are ready to challenge for the Premier League title this season, it is a real test to their title credentials and whoever come out tops might actually be the team to win the League, that is if they do not fade off after this match. It is too early to predict who wins the League at this stage of the season but it will be nice to say that Arsenal is in for a big test in the next few days and that will make them approach this match with all seriousness. Arsene Wenger will be keen to get a win here and put the confidence back into the squad and even the fans who are never tired in watching them. They lost the last two matches at the Emirates Stadium, and that came in the Champions League and the Capital One Cup and this is a big avenue for them to turn those defeats into victories. Liverpool have surprised me so far this season and one need to commend the efforts of Brendan Rodgers on this team. Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez are really on fire now and I think they have the best attacking options for this match compared to their opponent, but Arsenal can boast of the best midfield going into the game. I know quite well that the match will be won from the midfield and that will Arsenal an edge in this one. Liverpool might tend to wait and catch Arsenal on the counter and that is what Arsenal should watch out for. Most of the goals they have conceded this season has been on the counter and that is because they tend to attack while playing at home, but if Wenger can correct that, it will be a straight forward victory at the Emirates. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 3-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 3-1 Lawrence’s Prediction: 1-3 Sunday EVERTON v TOTTENHAM GOODISON PARK 14:30 Roberto Martinez has made a whole lot of changes at Everton since arriving at the club in the summer and he is keen to even surpass the achievements of his predecessor, David Moyes who is currently struggling at Manchester United. I wonder how many months it will take Villas Boas to blend this team together, they have been struggling of recent though they are luckily getting the wins but I do not see that luck continuing in this match. They will have to work for it and their failure in getting a win from this match means they are not a real title contender. Everton doesn’t change their approach to matches bur they tend to play a possession football more than they did under David Moyes and that is helping the team achieve great results, and coupled with the physical approach, Tottenham will have to be on guard to have anything from this match. Yemiojo’s Prediction: 2-1 Abiodun’s Prediction: 1-1 Lawrence’s Prediction: 2-1 CARDIFF v SWANSEA CARDIFF CITY STADIUM 17:00 The very first Welsh Derby in the Premier League and it promises to be an interesting one. Both teams will bring out their best towards this game and both Malky Mackay and Michael Laudrup must give the fans on the night what they actually needed. What the fans need is an interesting match and they must strive in giving them the exact thing they want. Cardiff seems to be solid sometimes at home this season including that win over Manchester City, they have switched off but they might actually be geared up by the euphoria of this match. I’ve once said in one of my articles that Swansea might suffer from playing on a Thursday night in the Europa League and I think it is actually affecting them. Though the manager has the experience to cope with that, most of the players don’t. They must now forget that now and face the next hurdle in their front which is a must win Welsh Derby. Both teams play an attacking style and that will prompt the managers to go for the best legs up front and the fans in Wales should expect the best from these two sides.
