PRESIDENT JONATHAN REPRESENTS NEW BREED OF AFRICAN LEADERS – BAYELSA SPEAKER Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson says President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s humane leadership style represents the new breed of African liberation leaders, reiterating that the transformation agenda of the Jonathan-led administration has become a benchmark for good governance in African. Rt. Hon. Friday Benson, who spoke with newsmen in Yenagoa, on Friday, 21 November 2014 on arrival from Abuja, where he had accompanied the state governor, Rt. Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson to the Presidential Villa to felicitate with President Jonathan on his 57th birthday, described the president as a unifying figure, giant of history and global ambassador. According to the Speaker, never in the history of Nigeria have Nigerians had such a leader that is so amiable, informing that President Jonathan’s nomination by the Institute of Leadership and Management, for the prestigious 2014 African Achievers Award in Peace Keeping in Africa, was as a result of Nigeria’s role in the promotion of peace, security and political stability in Africa through interventions in crises in Niger, Cote dIvoire, Guinea Bissau and Mali, among several others. While applauding the rising foreign relations profile of Nigeria under President Jonathan, the Speaker pointed out that the transparent leadership pattern of the president has further helped in deepening Nigeria’s leadership role in multilateral institutions within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the rest of the world, including the United Nations. On the oil and gas sector, the Speaker noted that the promotion of a sustainable local content policy, introduced by Mr President’s transformation agenda has continued to guarantee equity and better opportunities for Nigerian entrepreneurs and skilled personnel. Rt. Hon. Benson, while extoling the virtues of Mr President, however commended the Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson’s efforts at transforming the state. For the first time, the state has witnessed what he described as un-paralled developmental revolution in all ramifications. He added that there has been a cordial relationship between the President and the governor, noting that ‘It is a mark of honour and respect for the president who he said is the hope of every Ijaw man. The number one lawmaker in Bayelsa state, revealed that he has much respect for President Jonathan, who addresses him as ‘my younger brother,’ any time they meet, saying that it was time for all and sundry to rally round the President as we approach the 2015 elections.
