*PRESIDENT MAHAMA SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO FIGHTING CORRUPTION* Inside Ghana wishes to register its disgust at the way and manner some media practitioners are handling the GYEEDA Report saga. It is unfortunate that rather than complimenting the efforts of the President in fighting this cancerous growth, some media houses who for reasons best known to them are peddling falsehood on this serious issue. It is a shame that it is happening at a time when we have a President who is committed to fighting this evil known as “CORRUPTION”. The fight for justice against corruption is never an easy one. It exacts a toll on our self, our families and friends as well as the entire nation. But that fight nevertheless is well worth every strength in us and every sweat we break as we hold on to our dignity. The fight against corruption is not a one man fight. It is neither a fight for the President only nor that reserved for the ruling political party. It is a conscious effort against the flourish of organized crime, undermining rule of law, profligate and reckless spending of State’s resources without recourse to the suffering masses, unfavourable business environment, anti competitive practices and unfair advantage for the microscopic few at the expense of the disadvantaged majority. It is a fight against social injustice. This is a fight for ALL if the nation is to be victorious in fighting this evil. To clear the air, the President has not formed any new committee to review the Ferdinand Gunn committee report. In his determination to implement recommendations and findings made in the report, H.E John Dramani Mahama has passed on the report to his advisors to study and advice him accordingly. We are therefore shocked to the bone that some media houses will be throwing dusts into our eyes. Such unfair and unprofessional reportage does not only score cheap political points for opponents but helps in denying us a fair fight against corruption. Inside Ghana see such scandalous reportage as a defeatist political tactics employ to smack the good intention of the President. This is not a usual talk about politics which ends at where it begins; to wit the media. Ghanaians must read between the lines and support the President in this fight. We painstakingly recall how a former President who promised to fight corruption resigned to fate by telling Ghanaians “corruption is as old mankind” when confronted with the issue. It is therefore imperative to support any leader who by his action seems to be committed to fighting this corruption canker. We believe that it is only prudent that we commend the President for initiating the investigation and urge him to implement the findings and recommendations as he has promised. “Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual but the former invariably endangers the moral of the entire country” Karl Kraus. It is therefore unfortunate that these media houses that have made hundreds of thousands of cedis from the same companies mentioned in the report through advertisements and brand ambassadorial capacities will put their interest above that of the nation. Inside Ghana laud the President for not allowing the media noise to derail his efforts. We thank him for remaining resolute and not allowing some journalists and leading opposition members who are possible beneficiaries of this rot to walk in his mind with their dirty feet. And we call on all to be supportive of the President in the fight against CORRUPTION.
