PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA MR JOSIPOVIC MET THE KINOOKUS/TERRA MADRE BALKANS DELEGATION President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipović received the representatives of the Association Kinookus regarding the upcoming event Terra Madre Balkans meetings of small-scale traditional farmers in Dubrovnik The representatives of the Association: Ana Nakić, Doris Mudrovčić, Ivana Hladilo, Marijan Kocković and Ivo Kara-Pešić during a pleasant conversation with President Josipović presented the key projects of Kinookus with a special focus on Terra Madre Balkans meetings which they will be hosting from 19 to 22 June in Dubrovnik. The coordinator of the project Ivo Kara-Pesic presented to the president the strategic importance of the Terra Madre Balkans event for the Croatian agriculture, as well as the conference topics and present results of the European project ESSEDRA within which the event is being held. The president expressed how satisfied he was with the fact that such an important event is being organised in Croatia in the very year which the United Nations proclaimed the year of small-scale farmers. He also wished the organizers success in this project and in future ones. Terra Madre Balkans is going to host 300 Slow Food delegates and traditional small-scale farmers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. They will be discussing the common agricultural policy and support tools for small-scale farmers, sustainable fishery, role of the youth and civil society in the food system reform, food education programmes at schools, geographical indications, and placement of traditional products through the forms of sustainable tourism. The open Earth Market will be organized in the Gradac Park where the visitors will be able to get to know the traditional products from 10 countries in the region. The event is organised by Slow Food, FAO and Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia, with the support of European Commission, DURA the City of Dubrovnik Developing Agency, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, City of Dubrovnik and University of Dubrovnik.
