PRESS RELEASE 3073 English Creek Ave, Suite 3 Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 Date: July 24, 2013 Contact: Nick White Phone: 609-569-0239/1160 Fax: 609-569-1942 For Immediate Release Egg Harbor Township – …Close your eyes and remember the end of summer when you were a child. The excitement and fear of a new school year coming and the sad anticipation of the summer ending… For many of our children, thinking about a new school year means thinking about new school supplies. Some children will be thinking of the great time they’ll have picking out their new supplies. What colors they’ll choose. What’s “in” this year. What’s their favorite character? Sadly, other children will be wondering where they’ll get pencils and paper. Who will have the money? Parents and teachers know that starting the year off with the right school supplies is important to all kids. But we also know that some families just cannot afford to purchase everything they need. That’s why Family Service Association, Spencer’s Gifts, The Bank, and Asbury United Methodist Church have teamed up to collect school supplies through Operation Backpack. Customers are encouraged to stop by their neighborhood The Bank or other listed sites on July 22-Aug. 23 to drop off school supplies in Operation Backpack bins. “We have all felt the impact of the budget crisis this year, and no one more so than the very poor families who live in our county. Nearly 14,000 children live in poverty in Atlantic County and many of their parents cannot afford the basic supplies for school,” says Cindy Herdman Ivins., President/CEO of Family Service Association. “Through Operation Backpack, we can work together to send all students off to school ready to learn — ready to succeed. When individuals and families make the effort to donate a backpack to another child, it makes a big difference in everyone’s life. ” Over twenty Family Service Association Programs will participate in this year’s Operation Backpack campaign, including the Pleasantville Family Success Center, the Egg Harbor Township Family Success Center, and the Egg Harbor Township High School School Based Youth Services program. “We encourage customers to donate backpacks and school supplies to help South Jersey’s children begin the school year on a level playing field,” said Debbie Renaud, Vice President for The Bank. “All school supplies are needed, especially backpacks, notebook paper, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, spiral notebooks and rulers.” The deadline for donations is August 23, 2013. Family Service Association volunteers will sort supplies and prepare them for distribution between August 21- 23 at our headquarters. To sign up, email [email protected].
