PRESS RELEASE August 7, 2013 Delaware County Daily Times: The Marcus Hook Preservation Society reached out to Senator Pileggi and was heard! Anna Glisson wrote to the Senator in June asking for his help with obtaining a very much needed laptop computer for their growing artifacts at the historic Plank House in Marcus Hook. Since 2004, archaeologists have diligently worked at unearthing over 30,000 artifacts to date from the grounds surrounding this historic property. Kathryn Cavallo, lead artifact specialist, has been involved with the digging, cleaning, tagging and identification of each piece uncovered. But what to do with all this information? There are dozens of notes and photographs on personal computers but it is necessary for the Preservation Society to maintain appropriate records of each find and the only way to do it is with a designated laptop computer. Funding is not easy to come by and the only way to achieve this goal is to reach out and hope that someone listens. Senator Pileggi heard and came through. Vynamic, has graciously donated a laptop computer to our organization with the help of TechGuides who was responsible for cleaning and setting up the computer for use. Teri Zizzi from Senator Pileggi’s office put us in touch with the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, Chris Catalano from Vynamic, Jeff Sumner, President of TechGuides and Alex Charlton, President of Delaware County Chamber of Commerce met at the Plank House to donate the Dell Latitude E5410 computer to the Preservation Society. The Board of Directors of the Marcus Hook Preservation Society and Ms. Cavallo were present to receive this very generous and much needed gift. “This is a dream come true”, said Board President, Michael Manerchia. “With this computer and the artifact library donated by Sun Foundation, we are on our way to preserving and protecting each little piece of history that comes out of the ground at the Marcus Hook Plank House.” We humbly thank everyone involved with helping us to achieve this very worthwhile goal. We are one step closer to saving our history, documenting it and providing proof of the past for all future generations.
