PRESS RELEASE BANK OF AMERICA ROBBED BY GUNMAN On Wednesday, April 09, 2014 at approximately 9:48AM, Mansfield Police Dispatch received a 911 call from Bank of America, 355 North Main St. reporting a bank robbery with a handgun shown. Suspect was described as a male wearing a scarf over his face, winter hat, gloves, black pants and a red jacket and reported to have fled on foot towards the bank parking lot. Sgt. Brian Thibault immediately responded to the area and observed two males on the corner of North Main St. and Crocker St. One male was an employee of Liberty Tax working on the corner and the second male was standing next to him. Sgt. Thibault spoke to the males and indicated that the bank had been robbed and inquired if they had seen anyone running from the area. The second male indicated that he saw someone running northbound on North Main St. The male start walking away and Sgt. Thibault observed a large amount of loose and banded cash fall to the ground from his waistband. He was asked where the cash came from and he stated he found it. At this time, Detective John Armstrong arrived on scene and assisted Sgt. Thibault in placing him in custody. A black semi-automatic pistol, determined to be a pellet gun, with a red tip painted over black, was located in his wasteband. The subjects clothing was located in a dumpster at the rear of the bank. Arrested was George Engelhart, 51, of 2904 Francis Ave. , Mansfield. Engelhart was charged with Armed Robbery while masked, Assault with a dangerous weapon, Armed Career Criminal Act, Disorderly Person, Resisting Arrest and other charges pending further investigation.
