PRESS RELEASE Customs Department now tracking customs declaration queries electronically Tuesday, April 29, 2014: A new internal application that allows the Customs Department to track customs declaration queries electronically was put into operation recently by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). The new solution referred to as the Customs Declaration Query, replaces the manual system used to manage queries and now enables such queries to be seen by members of the public via the updated Online Customs Declaration Checker and the in-house Kiosk Declaration systems. In 2012, the GRA introduced the Online Declaration Checker to enable importers and brokers to monitor Customs declarations statuses rather than have to make unnecessary trips to the Customs Department. The current version of Checker has an added advantage of enabling quicker responses in instances where documents are queried by the Customs Entry Processing Unit (EPU). Through the use of the Customs Declaration Checker, persons can enter the TIN and Declaration Number to see the results with or without queries or they can enter their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) only and see the all their declarations with or without queries for the last 14 days. Kiosk Declaration system works similarly but does not have a date-limit and is only accessible from the GRA Headquarters facility. The Customs Online Checker and Kiosk systems are regarded as transparent means by which importers can track the progress of their declarations. The intervention was spearheaded by the GRA’s Information Technology (IT) department and adds to the numerous efforts by the Authority to improve its services over the years through technology. Among them is the online payment option system which allows taxpayers to pay their Corporation Tax, Income Tax, Individual and Company Property Taxes, Value Added Tax, P.A.Y.E and motor vehicle licenses online or via the telephone. -ENDS-
