PRESS RELEASE: FREEDMAN RECEIVES THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY Made Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers London. Tororto, ON - At Guildhall Chamberlain’s Court London, Clerk Murray Craig accompanied by the Court Beetle Graham Painter witnessed David Freedman Esq. Toronto sign the register and read the Declaration of a Freeman of the city of London in The Worshipful Company of Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers by redemption for harness making excellence. During the solemn ceremony, Freedman declared that he would be good and true to the Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second and the Mayor of the City of London, and that he would maintain the customs thereof. Freedman also swore that he would know no gatherings or conspiracies made against the Queen’s Peace. All is stated according to the laws and customs of the City of London, England. He was then presented with the Freedom of the City Scroll and welcomed to this special honoured group of individuals that have also received the Freedom for hundreds of years prior. David was accompanied by Nicole Laver of Lexington, KY for this very special immediately following the extraordinary meeting, another prestigious group gathered in the same Chamberlain’s Courtroom. Michael Callaghan, Master of the Worshipful Company of Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers London, along with Company Warden Michael Kimber, Company Court Assistant Mike Moran and the Companies Clerk Capt. Mark Leaning proceeded with David Freedman’s Clothing of the Company Ceremony. David was clothed in a black robe trimmed in yellow and blue silk, the colors of the Coach Harness Makers and then presented with a very special golden coach pin that is presented to each and every member that is made a Liveryman of the Company.Sixth generation harness maker, David Freedman is the first maker from outside of England to be sworn to the Worshipful Company of Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers London and the first to be made a Liveryman of the Company in hundreds of years. The company received its charter in 1677 by King Charles the II as one of the City of London’s Livery Companies. Five members of the Royal family have honoured the Company by accepting membership and office, including the Duke of Edinburgh in 1863 and HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught in 1927. Current Royal Liverymen include HRH the Duchess of Kent, HRH Prince Michael of Kent and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
