PRESS RELEASE January 13, 2015 Contact: Alisa Valdes 505-848-1320 [email protected] South Broadway Cultural Center Hosts Crossroads for Women Special Concert and Event to be Held on January 31 ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The South Broadway Cultural Center will host a special concert and event for a local homeless prevention group on Saturday, January 31 at 7 p.m. The event will bring awareness to the work of Crossroads for Women, an organization with a mission to support homeless women with co-occurring addictive and mental health disorders. The event will recognize Crossroads for Womens efforts to help homeless women create safe, secure and drug-free lifestyles for themselves and their children. Food trucks, beverages and merchandise will be available for purchase. And at 7 p.m., musician B**ch will take the stage of the John Lewis Theatre. She is a folk-rock singer, producer, actress, entrepreneur and writer and is well-known for her unique blend of electric violin, bass, ukulele and keytar rock. She has toured the United States and Europe with Ani DiFranco, Ferron and the Indigo Girls. Her songs were featured on Showtimes drama, The L Word. B**ch will be joined by several accomplished, Albuquerque-based slam poets, including Jasmine Cuffee, Megan Young, Brooke Von Blomberg, Eva Crespin, Mercedez Holtry and Ashley Sena. Crossroads for Women helps women create safe, secure and drug-free lifestyles for themselves and their children and futures of economic self-sufficiency. It also provides programming in the local jail and works closely with women reintegrating into the community after incarcerations. Thirty women and their families at the Crossroads community-based program are provided with apartments. Another twelve women reside in a nurturing group setting called Mayas Place. Wrap-around support services include intensive case management, therapeutic day programs, counseling, parenting assistance, vocational services and healthy community activities. Tickets to this fundraising event and concert are $35, and are available by calling 505-848-1230, or can be purchased in-person at the South Broadway Cultural Center Box Office at 1025 Broadway SE Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. South Broadway Cultural Center is managed by the Cultural Services Department, City of Albuquerque, Richard J. Berry, Mayor. Located at 1025 Broadway SE, the unique architecture and colorful design of the buildings exterior is an attraction in the area. SBCC shares the facility with the South Broadway Library and collaborates with the library on a number of events and activities. There is free parking immediately adjacent to the facility.
