PRESS RELEASE On November 11, 2014 shortly after 1:00 p.m. the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call indicating that three juveniles were missing in the Camp Baker area of Vernon Parish. Deputies responded to a location in the area of Hickory Ridge Road / Camp Baker Road and learned that three female juveniles ages 11, 12, and 14 were lost in a wooded area in close proximity to their residence. Deputies were advised that the childrens father was already in the wooded area attempting to locate his daughters. Deputies entered the woods and began a canvas of the area and ultimately located the girls after searching for approximately thirty minutes. Upon contact with the girls Deputies learned that the eleven year old had suffered a snake bite to her hand and was experiencing numbness in her hand and arm. Deputies immediately carried the child to emergency medical personnel for treatment and she was then transported to a local hospital. The child was later transported by ambulance to a Lafayette Hospital for additional treatment of the snake bite. Upon further testing medical personnel indicated to family members that they believed the child was bitten by a copper head snake. The child received anti venom and was released from the hospital on November 12, 2014. At the time of this release family members indicate that the child is doing well and she wants to come to VPSO to thank all of the Deputies who helped her. The two other children were not injured.
