PRESS RELEASE On September 11, 2014, the Highland Township Fire Department - Ayersville received a $10,000 grant from the Honor Project Trust - Tier II funding. Highland Township was the only fire department listed for the Tier II grant distribution. The Honor Project Trust originated from the Ohio Attorney Generals Office court case in State v. American International Group (AIG) in Cuyahoga County Court of Common pleas. Excess proceeds from the settlement were distributed under the direction of Judge John J. Russo to approved Ohio charitable organizations that met court ordered criteria. The grant will be used towards the purchase of vehicle extrication equipment and personal protective equipment. In addition, the department will utilize funds for driving safety and the purchase smoke detectors for the community. It is important that fire departments keep up with new technologies. It is difficult to be able to purchase advanced tools for Fire and EMS, while being fiscally responsible to our community taxpayers. Grants such as this will help us with continuous improvement while caring for the needs of the communities we serve. The Highland Township Fire department would like to thank the Ohio Attorney Generals Office and Judge John J. Russo for the opportunity.
