PRESS RELEASE The Embassy of the State of Eritrea to Tokyo informs through this Press Release that H.E. Mr. ISAIAS Afwerki President of the State of Eritrea announced on the occasion of the 23rd Independence Day Celebration held on May 24, 2014 that a constitution drafting process will be launched in order to chart out the political road map for a new future government structure. Constitution building process has been stalled since 13 May 1998, when Ethiopia decaled “total war” on Eritrea and claimed Badme and environs (Eritrea) were part of Ethiopia. Ethiopia carried three round of big offensives to invade Eritrea from 1998 – 2000. Ethiopia still occupies Badme and environs despite the Eritrea Ethiopia Border Commission (EEBC) decision made in April 2002 and the final and binding Peace Agreement reached by both countries in Algeria on 12 December 2000. This no war no peace situation from 2000 – 2014 remains a serious challenge and impediment to the establishment of a constitutional republic in Eritrea and peace in the region. May 29, 2014
