PRESS RELEASE: The Fayette County Sheriffs Office and the Oak Hill Police Department are investigating a death that occurred on old Route 16 in Oak Hill. Sheriff Steve Kessler and Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman released the following information concerning this ongoing investigation: At approximately 5:15 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, notification was received thru the Fayette County 911 Center of the discovery of a dead body just off of old Route 16 in Oak Hill. Units from the Oak Hill Police Department, the Oak Hill detachment of the West Virginia State Police and the Fayette County Sheriffs Office responded to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene officers found the badly decomposed remains of an individual located in a wooded area approximately 40 yards from the roadway. Personal items at the scene indicate that the remains are most likely those of William Claude Brubaker, who has been missing from his home on Gatewood Road since last Tuesday. The advanced state of decomposition precludes any positive identification at this time, said Sheriff Kessler. Chief Whisman added, The remains are being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy and identification. The cause and manner of death, as well as the positive identity of the decedent cannot be established at this time. This incident remains under investigation by Detective-Sergeant Eddy Colon of the Oak Hill Police Department and the Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriffs Office. Anyone having any information is asked to contact the Fayette County 911 Center at (304) 574-3590 or you may submit a tip through the Sheriffs Office Facebook Page, Fayette County Sheriffs Department.
