PROFESSOR SALVADOR SUAZO Garifuna Scholar Salvador Eusebio Suazo was born in Cusuna, Iriona Municipality in the Department of Colon, Honduras. He lives and works in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He is the executive director of CEDEC and he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the Honduras National Autonomous University (UNAH). He also earned a graduate degree in management specializing in financial controls and management development at INCAE. He published a Garifuna Dictionary last year which was thirty years in the making. This dictionary features approximately 10,600 words and has words in Garifuna and they are translated into Spanish. He adopted the most rigorous method of registration and community consultation on the meanings and variations to create the first Garifuna dictionary. In 1986, he published “Luragate Garifuna Yurumaigien” (“Garifuna Ethnohistory in St. Vincent from 1635 to 1797″). ”Yurumeingien Daga Rubadan”, by Salvador Suazo. In 1991, he also published “Let’s Talk in Garifuna: Grammar and Conversation Manual”. The Second Edition was published in 1994. One of the foremost scholars on Garifuna language, history and culture, Mr. Suazo is well-known for his knowledge and ability to record Garifuna history. He is highly respected by other scholars in and outside the country of Honduras. Salvador Suazo’s “Lila Garifuna” Garifuna to Spanish Dictionary is available in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and it sells for 600 Lempiras ($33.00).
