PROFITABLE PURSUIT “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity. (Ecclesiastes 2:11) Our text today describes Solomon’s view of life. As a prominent king in Israel, he gave his life to labour, and his resources for the pursuit of his passions. At the end, Solomon described his life and labour as vanity. Ironically, Solomon has this counsel for young people: Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1). It is so easy for you to forget God when you feel you are young and strong. Like Solomon, many youths have not learnt to control their desires and passions for things without eternal value. Satisfying fleshly lust will make you spend eternity in hell. Are you a Christian? Consecrate your life, your time and talent to God. If you are not a Christian, receive Christ today, confess and forsake your sins, and begin to live with eternity in view. That`s a more profitable pursuit. Remember, life and labour without Christ will lead to regret in the end. Challenge: Labour for things that have eternal value. Prayer: Father, help me to invest my life in kingdom projects. Further Reading: Luke 12:13-21. Quotation: Live with eternity in view.
