PROGRAMMING IDEAS FOR WBAI IN PARTICULAR, PACIFICA AT LARGE, and even one for KPFA (Gay USA): I dont follow everything here, but wanted to share my hopes of reconciliation after Margys election. The Monday after, Dennis Bernstein on air praised Bob Baldock for his years of doing events and fundraising for KPFA (if all other stations had a Baldock, maybe no econ probs.-me, not DB). Then I heard that Margy was/is praising Dennis Bernsteins work on lyme disease. And Margy off to good start with letter to Pacifica members and she began trying to lower BAI transmitter rents (even before she was elected, I think). Day b4 Margys election, heard Rickey Vincent comment--we are not going to let any East Coast haters destroy KPFA So I think many of two sides here realize that BAI, Pac Mgmt, BAI mgmt have put us in this quandary. Instead to two factions, there seem to be ten, with peeps holding 20 yr grudges in NYC. Get over it, no ones perfect. Programing ideas for the failing WBAI. Tho they could not beat Null/Brown on raising money at first, consider: 3 KPFAers being syndicated there: Jesserich, BET and Dennis Bernstein. The first two seem to be nationally focused and Dennis could easily mke many of his local stores ntional--thinking about Santa Rosa here which must be repeating itself in towns near LA, NYC, Houston. 2) AS BAI has moved to health and science rather than political programming, I suggest we try to have an hour show a ay at BAI (with Caroline Casey, if she has the time (right now shes not even on BAI) If Casey can only do her hour show a week, I bet she could find peeps like Joanna Macy, Cornel West?, Drew Dellinger (never turned me down when i asked him to do spoken word at events), Bill McKibben, someone from Bioneers? or those other pricy green events that Casey and Amy Goodman often speak at--nationally recognized names that just might bring some NYers back to BAI. Ann Northrup ( a persoanl hero) and Andy Humm, if they have time--they do a weekly Gay USA syndicated program--hey lets put it on KPFA! Suggestion: Ann, Andy and friends do a daily or weekly updates on NY City and State politics. also told they my not raise funds immediatley--but I am thinking long term. Having Gay USA on kpfa would silence the critics on that issue and no local peps could do it better (Eric Larsen n Marilyn Pittman already at KALW.) I dont know who to send my suggestions to on programming. My thots involve saving the network, not getting me or my friends on the air. Suggestions??
