PROMOTER’S POINT-SEPTEMBER 24,2013 Sunday night at the historic Mottville Speedway it was again 3 wide and at times even 4 wide racing in event after event! I had a lot of fans tell me how exciting the racing was! Nice finish to the evening when Brian Engelhart and Samantha Wolkens put on quite the duel for the Hornet feature win! The Mini Thunder Car feature was another close one with Kyle Odell getting by early and long leader Bill Hurst on the final lap and just finishing ahead of Jack Hurford! Never expected 39 cars for the 4th Sunday of September but they just kept coming in and coming in! Former Mini Stock racer John Yoder and his brother, Amos, were at the track Sunday. Merle Yoder, son of Amos, was one of the early stars of Mini Stock racing! John had a near fatal heart attack 6 weeks ago but is doing well now and looked good. From the sounds of it we may be picking up some new Hornets for 2014 as several people have now discovered how exciting and how low cost Hornet racing can be! Looking at the points-in Sportsmen Adam Litaker has a 197 point lead over Bradley Blackburn, Jr., the defending champion, but that lead may well be history after this coming Sunday! Lisa Saylor currently in 5th, could jump to 3rd Sunday! Justyn Wade and Chad Pontius have both cracked the top 10 and Adam Bistodeau could do that as well this Sunday! He had an impressive 4th place finish Sunday! Jack Hurford, also going for two in row in the Mini Thunder Cars points championships, had an 89 point lead over Ed Martz. Bill Hurst has moved to 8th and could crack the top 5 by season’s end! Kyle Odell after 2 feature wins in a row has cracked the top 10 and sits one point out of 9th! Could be a nice battle for the top 10 with Troy Lindsey in 11th! The MTC field gets stronger each week! Marcus Carlson has a 61 point leader over rookie Dennis Yoder in the Mini Stocks. This one could go to the final night! Louis Davis is up to 6th and most likely will move some more! Joe Bucker is at 14 and should crack the top 10! The Hornet battle is tight! Samantha Wolkens has a 63 point lead over Brian Engelhart. The top 5-Samantha, Brian, David Terry, Scott Binkley and Joe Lambright-seem pretty locked in but Rick Wolkens in 7th should bump up a spot Sunday. Richele Wolkens returned after a long absence and should return to the top 10 very soon! She is currently in 13th! Dillon Dane may well take his first ever Karts season points championship! He leads his grandfather, Marshall Pebler, by 52 points which should be safe with only one night to go but with Kart engines you just never know! We had 3 new staff members Sunday, Sandra Fisette doing photos, Fred Lowrey on the track crew and Jeff Skwiat lining up the cars in turn 3 and all 3 did great! We ran 15 events in just under 2 ½ hours and when the final checkered flag flew it was 8:24! The big project this week is the sanding and painting of the pit rest room building. So this year we upped the quality considerably and will hope it lasts for several years. Yes, it will be back to white and we sure hope it is done by Sunday! Also we hope to replace a couple of burned out bulbs in the track lights this week! People would never believe what maintenance costs of these older facilities! Apparently at least one person misunderstood by column last week! I most certainly did not intend to bash any track! I do not feel I bashed any track! I know for certain how tough it is to run a speedway so I am not into bashing another track! The one and only track I talked about other then the historic Mottville Speedway was New Paris and that was in admiration for their new stock fwd class that they are introducing in 2014! Sunday, September 29 is the final Kart race of the season at the historic Mottville Speedway! Plus Sportsmen, Mini Stocks, Mini Thunder Cars, and Hornets! Plus a Powder Puff! Plus Pursuits! Plus THE CHASE continues with triple points and bonus points !!! Thursday practice from 6 PM to dark! Night 28 is Sunday, September 28, open 4:30, race 6 PM! I am excited! What about you?
