PROTEST IN HEBRON Published on Aug 26, 2014 Today, Tuesday 26 August, a group of Human Rights Defenders, local families and residents who live in the vicinity of Shuhada street protested against the IOF banning of entry and exit to the area. They demanded freedom of movement and the rights of education and to stop collective punishment. As large crowds gathered near the checkpoint, including men, women and children, the Israeli police and soldiers decided to open the checkpoint. People passed through chanting against collective punishment and the occupation. Then the soldiers fired a sound bomb. The families consider the opening of this checkpoint, following its closure some days ago a small victory. They consider that the big victory will be when the checkpoint is removed and the street is reopened. Human Rights Defenders and local families said if the checkpoint is closed again they will continue their resistance until the occupation reopens the street.
