PROTESTA. A longstanding ritual of mine is to drop by Farleys - TopicsExpress

PROTESTA. A longstanding ritual of mine is to drop by Farleys coffee shop on Portrero Hill whenever Im in San Francisco. I always order a doppio espresso machiatto and pick up the latest edition of COLORS magazine from the newsstand inside the café. COLORS is published by Bennetton, the Italian fashion house. It comes out quarterly in dual-language format (English-Italian/French/Spanish). I always by the English-Spanish edition. Every issue is devoted to exploring a single theme in depth, giving it a globalist photojournalistic treatment. As a Bennetton rule, all COLORS ontributors are under age 30, and this keeps the magazine most lively and irreverent. Toight, I was blown away by the January 2014 edition, devoted to the theme of protest. On the occasion of the Arab Springs third anniversary, COLORS has devoted this issue to a documentary recounting of the conditions that led to the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings, and ultimately to the Occupy movement. The magazine reads like a gripping, fast-paced documentary film, but in printed form. It is an astounding artistic achievement, and it has left me very energized about the possibilities that still exist in journalism. colorsmagazine/magazine/88
