PS/IS 41 Presents An Afro-Caribbean SHOWCASE Featuring Sneaky - TopicsExpress

PS/IS 41 Presents An Afro-Caribbean SHOWCASE Featuring Sneaky Zazeky (June 14th & 15th, 2004) Back in the early part of this century Art Coordinator Marcia Schwartz was the driving force behind getting a major grant for the arts for PS/IS 41. The theme behind the grant was to create a fusion between the arts and academics through a motivated group of PS41 students and staff working under the guidance of professionals from Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and Creative Dance Outlet. Near the end of each school year the culminating event for the grant was putting on a fantastic assembly show for two consecutive nights that featured hundred of hours of hard work from participating students and staff from the school. I would like to give a personal shout-out to the Kid Witness News group from the fourth, sixth and seventh grades that I assembled to videotape and cover this event. Students Brittany Bryant, Tamara DaCruz, Eternitty Dorsey, Tiffany Edwards, Casim Gomez, Shauntez Green, Diana Maldanado, Jesse Pineda, Jonathan Tirado, and Nija Watts should all be saluted not only for the great job they did but also for putting up with all my craziness for the two nights the show was videotaped. The KWN kids really worked hard to coordinate how to videotape the show while not interfering with its presentation or the enjoyment of the audience. For example, we videotaped a number of audience shots using the infrared feature on the cameras that allowed us to tape in total darkness avoiding the use of shining bright lights into the eyes of the crowd as they watched the show. What I personally found interesting about these shots was not just how many of them were included in the final video production – but having the chance to see so many former students, parents, and staff in the audience that I still remember so well. BTW, most of the performances used on this video were from the second night as we used the first night as mostly practice to figure out the different camera angles that were needed to cover this major event. ======================== Those who are Facebook friends with me and are mentioned or shown during this video: Tamara Sunshyn DaCruz, Eternitty Dorsey, Robin Edwards, Casim Gomez, Jessemaria Pineda, Nija Watts, Sylvia Reinosa, Martine Samedy, Kaye Cameron, Jose Valdez, Richy Bando Jr., Quenet Michelle Bennett (in audience), Eliza Thornberry, Selma Currie, Joselyn Richardson, Joy De Palm, Pamela Muchee Bradley, LaChaun McDonald, Ashley Figueroa (in audience), Basirat Oke, Jessica Davis (in audience), Jesus Martinez, Cindy Lucas, Barbara Gray, Quanaya Kennedy, Tonya Cheeks, Yefry Espinal, Keara Sheppard, Tiara PrettyFace Davis, Malta Alvarez, Aileen Cleveland, Thalia Davis (in audience), Chrissy Sanchez, Marcia Mendoza Myles (in audience), Nelly Gallardo (in audience), Mounia Rmaidi (in audience), Lavon AirJordan Portis, Marques Malave, Symphy Celaire, Lauren Thompson, Sonja Hill, Alexis Barnette, Shanna Faye, Phyllis Mary, Raven Shanee, Yvonne L.
