September 11, 2014 United Nations Womens Guild sponsors a special screening of the film, Gimme Shelter held at the United Nations Dag Hammerskjold Theater with a reception to follow in the Secretary Generals Penthouse. Based on the inspiring true story of Kathy DiFiores Several Sources Shelters, GIMME SHELTER centers on the courageous story of Agnes “Apple” Bailey (Vanessa Hudgens) and her incredible path to motherhood as a pregnant, homeless teenager. Forced to flee her abusive mother (Rosario Dawson), and turned away by her Wall Street father (Brendan Fraser), Apple finds herself on a desperate and isolated journey of survival. In the depths of despair, she meets a compassionate Priest (James Earl Jones), who ultimately leads her to salvation and unprecedented support in a suburban shelter for homeless teenagers. With gained confidence, and the warmth of her new home, Apple breaks free from her inhibiting past, embracing the future with clarity and hope. Producer/ Writer/ Director, Ronald Krauss will be in attendance conducting a question and answer session along with the true life inspirations Darlisha Doszer and shelter founder Kathy DiFiore. DiFiore who started the shelters with the help of Mother Teresa continues to operate them in Ramsey, New Jersey.. The film was awarded the 2014 Heartland Truly Moving Picture Award, the 2014 Christopher Award and the 2014 Trenton Diocese Pope John Paul II Gravitas Award.
