PSA: for anyone who watches the show Scorpion- The main characters sister has MS and although every MS case is different, this depiction of MS is inaccurate and inconsistent. She uses two canes to walk and lives in an assisted living facility but climbed a ladder. She also managed to walk on the beach and sit down by the shore. How would she get up? Her dr supposedly told her that she would be in a wheelchair in a year and then have trouble breathing. Doctors have no way to know that. And if that were true, she would have issues projecting her voice. She would also have much less energy. It just made me mad because clearly a lot of research goes into this show but not enough to prevent this dialogue: my nerve endings are deteriorating. The destruction of the protective myelin sheath around random nerves in the brain and spinal cord is what causes symptoms in MS. During one of the commercial breaks, CBS had the actor who plays the main character do a QUICK psa for the National MS Society. And towards the end of the show she was saying how shell be gone soon. That just isnt how MS plays out anymore, especially since shes in her 20s. I want more MS awareness and understanding. This show did the opposite.
