PSA for everyone: if you have elderly parents or grandparents, warn them that there are thieves out there making random calls to the elderly. They pretend to be grandchildren or attorneys of grandchildren that are in trouble and need financial assistance. They are expertly persuasive and many fall for the scheme, losing thousands of dollars to save family members they think are in trouble. If they get the calls,tell them to: 1) confirm their loved ones name. Then ask for the callers call back number. 2) If not forthcoming, hang up. 3)Then call the police and report it. I have heard and actually know of an instance where it happened and the couple lost thousands of dollars.
