PSG dismiss Marquinhos concerns Paris Saint-Germain have dismissed concerns over the health of Brazilian defender Marquinhos, who completed a €35 million move to the French champions last week. The 19-year-old centre-back stayed in the French capital while the rest of the squad travelled to play two friendly matches in Sweden. According to Le Parisien, Marquinhos could be suffering from a form of hepatitis, citing a source close to the player who is based in his homeland. However, the club denied that rumour and told Le Parisien that he would resume training with the team on Monday after the bulk of the squad returns from Sweden. The paper says that Marquinhos has also been troubled by mouth ulcers and that he went through a more vigorous medical examination than usual before his transfer was completed on Friday. Before joining PSG, staff at his former club Roma reported that he was ill during their training camp in the North of Italy. The centre-back was PSG’s third signing of the summer after striker Edinson Cavani and full-back Lucas Digne, bringing the club’s spending to well over €100 million. According to L’Equipe, PSG were also forced to increase centre-back Thiago Silva’s salary by €1.5 million per year to ward off interest from Barcelona.
