PUBLIC INVITED TO JOIN HENNOPS RIVER CLEAN-UP ON MANDELA DAY! Subject: local community invited to make a difference by spending 67 minutes helping clean-up parts of the Hennops River for Mandela Day. A group of young, keen environmental leaders from Centurion are inviting the public to join them in an initiative to clean-up the Hennops River on Friday, 18 July 2014, in memory of the late Nelson Mandela. The event will start at 11am until sunset. “We are calling on all members of the local community to join us and spend just 67 minutes as their contribution to making a difference! We have arranged three different loops around the Hennops River and Centurion Lake, with each loop taking 67 minutes to complete,” says team leader Ian Dennis. “There are many areas of this river that need some urgent attention, with many hands make light work, and we ask the local community to take some time out for Mandela” explains project manager Sean Hide “Our president has also called for all of us to ‘Clean, Clean, Clean!’”. These young Climate Leaders were trained by Al Gore and his organisation Climate Reality Project in March 2014. The organisations aims to create global awareness about the effects of climate change, as well as real world solutions to the impact we have on it. Participants in the clean-up are invited to speak to any of the Climate Leaders on the day about becoming a part of an actionable climate change solution. Registration points for the Hennops River Clean-Up will be held near the Centurion Lake Hotel and Protea Hotel Waterfront. Each registered participant will receive a voucher for a free action sports game at the Centurion Action Sports Arena. SAP and Monitor Net will be patrolling the area ensuring safety and peace of mind for all participants. Anybody interested should bring gum boots and gloves and be ready to get their hands dirty for a good cause! Materials and refreshments will be on sale throughout the day. “We really look forward to the public joining us in our first community initiative and to doing our bit for Mandela Day,” Dennis adds.
