**PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT** There have now been approximately 30 cases of CONFIRMED kennel cough by attendees of the most recent ABKC show in Orlando Florida. If your dog is coughing, choking, or has a runny nose and you attended this show please seek a vet for treatment. Although kennel cough MAY resolve itself it also can lead to pneumonia which is far more serious and costly to treat! KENNEL COUGH IS PREVENTABLE BY A CHEAP VACCINE! As upsetting as is it that someone brought a sick dog to a show, it’s even more upsetting to see all the sick dogs whose illness could have been completely prevented for $10 by keeping up with your vaccine schedule! CONSULT your Veterinarian about your dog’s activities, the quantity of dogs you have and their housing conditions openly and HONESTLY. Many Vets will suggest a more frequent Bordetella vaccine schedule considering SHOWING & SPORTING events are considered high exposure activities! We owe it to our DOGS and EACH OTHER to be more conscientious and courteous! What you bring to the show, someone else may bring home! Your dog’s illness may result in a fellow community member losing an entire litter. Look beyond how missing a show affects “you” and consider how your actions and the quality care you take of your animals effects our community!
