PUTTING A SMILE ON THE FACE OF A CHILD If Christmas was to be remembered as a time of sharing with family and friends, it would be remembered well this time around by the staff of Hiri Motu language radio, 89.9 FM Central. On the eve of Christmas, the staff of the radio station donated gifts to children at the three (3) wards at the Port Moresby General Hospital much to the delight of the children and their guardians. The gifts included wheelchairs for the wards and pillows, pillow cases, bed-sheets, bed covers, toys and cooked food for the children. Earlier on, the staff of the radio station visited the Cheshire Homes and also donated gifts to the 22 patients and their in-carers. CEO Rita Dege said this kind gesture brought out the real feeling of Christmas which is simply to share with family and friends. “To see the smiles on the faces of the children and to hear words of gratitude from their guardians was wonderful and this has really made Christmas for this year, a different and memorable one for me,” Mrs Dege said. The staff of the radio station recently hosted a very successful fund raising event on the 20th of December with the main theme of “Putting a Smile, on the face of a Child.” Funds raised from the event where used to purchase these gifts. Meanwhile, the station has announced that it will be carrying out similar activities in the future as its community service to the people of NCD and Central Province.
