Paddling the Slough One of the best ways to experience the South Slough is by paddling. Whether in a canoe or kayak, you’ll experience the spectacular surroundings including acres of watershed, and forest in addition to a variety of birds and wildlife. I always have my camera at ready just in case. During my paddles I’ve spotted an eagle circling overhead, song birds along the shoreline, the old Fredrickson House and ,of course my family as they also take in the peaceful surroundings. Whether you’re a seasoned Slough Trekker, or just getting your feet wet, there is always something new to learn. If planning to paddle the slough, take all necessary precautions. Check local tide tables for the best time to launch. Going with the tide is optimal. Make sure you wear your Personal Floatation Device and bring water, sun screen, a snack and a light weight jacket, just in case the wind kicks up. Launch and Take out points are located at the end of Hinch Road on the south end of the Reserve, or at the Distant Water Fleet facility on Troller Road in Charleston, just Northeast of the Charleston Bridge. Join the fun! See you at the slough! Day 20: _E_ #SouthSlough40
