Paddy straw as fodder Till five years back, farmers were compelled to burn paddy straw as it was of no use to them. But even as the price of wheat straw is increasing, paddy straw has been found to be good to feed animals. Scientists of the NDRI, Karnal, have confirmed that by using a mineral mixture, paddy straw can be used in place of wheat straw. It is better to use it as fodder than generate power because its calorific value is low. Fodder can be made by cutting paddy straw and mixing it with molasses and a mineral mixture.
