Page 18 Jan, 30,1945 The squardron packed up and moved to N.A.S. Kaniake on the island of Oakiu. We expected to be here only a short time but as you can see it amounted to about a month. This station was a good deal better and had many more facilities and conveniences. The quarters werent so good but the food was 100% better. Also the nearness of the station to Honolulu and Waikiki Beach helped out the situation. While at Pumene I had gone to Bakers Pt. for a refresher in photography so knew a few people in Honolulu. The club had very nice dances every Friday and there were quite a few available women so we took advantage of our status and had a grand time. We had two more additions to the squadron Ens. Marvin and Loomis. Pruitt was scratched and sent back to the States because of illness. Also J. D Hart was transferred and in his place we got Ens. Aylesworth, the expeditor. So it went with everyone in the squadron on the edge waiting for the word to get going into battle. We had all had several carrier checkouts including night landings and were really primed for duty. Flying was kept down to a minimem during this time and finally we got word to be alerted and started packing.
