Paige Rockwell 2 hours ago Gabriel dictated this to me about Kirk on Sunday afternoon: He was the best Daddy. He will always be a part of our life. X♥ X X♥ We will always love him. We finished watching all the movies (Star Wars) with our Daddy while we could. We lived together as long as we could. XOXOXO We love him no matter what. He has been the best Daddy our whole lives; even though hes dead, he will be the best Daddy. Then he drew a picture of Kirk in his hospital bed, smiling. Enrique Oribeposted toKirk MacLeod 19 hours ago near Irbil, Iraq I meet you and your family on a hot summer afternoon. I had reserved a flat for you to stay until you could find a home in NY. What a shock! I expected a formal professional with tie and all and what I got was a hippie, with long hair, beard and jeans! A smile, a few words, a beautiful family and a strong handshake started a great friendship at work and between our families. At work you had an out of the box approach. Impatient, energetic and visionary there was no time for traditions or a we always did it like this. New ideas, new concepts made you happy. SSAFE was your baby. In a few months you managed to build a superb team, design and deliver the program. Tens of thousands of UN personnel and dependents are safer today because of it. Some even saved their life thanks to the training. You did made a difference! Many, many anecdotes and stories. Always positive and adding value. Always helping and serving. One day Gerry Ganz came asking urgently for ideas on how to name the new security clearance system. You were already on the way to the field and it was late in the afternoon. Despite that quickly came the proposal of TRIP, brilliantly simple and effective. Everyone in the UN knows the name and use it. Great job! How you enjoyed your family! In all our missions together, from Timor to Liberia and from Italy to Colombia, you kept speaking about them, writing to them and missing them. And when in NY every minute was saved for a book reading, a walk or any activity that you could share and enjoy with the family. A true father and husband. This is who you were; caring, creative, practical and always ready to walk the extra mile. Most of all, a friend. And this is how I will always remember you, Descansa en paz amigo.
