Pain-free after back treatment in Italy, Yap looks forward to another title run By Richard Dy July 11, 2013, 06:26 pm SAN Mig superstar James Yap is looking forward to closing the season-ending PBA Governors Cup with a bang. Fresh from a three-week trip in Italy where he mixed leisure with treatment of his bad back, the two-time PBA MVP has felt significant improvement in his health to make him confident of hitting top form by the time the season’s final conference gets underway on August 14. “Nagpatingin ako dun (Florence, Italy) sa isang Olympic therapist na Italian. Malaki naitulong niya lalo na sa movements ko,” a beaming and fresh-looking Yap greeted Spin.ph on Thursday just before the Mixers held their team practice at the Ronac gym in San Juan. Yap said he is definitely feeling a lot better since undergoing 12 therapy sessions in Florence, the reason he has started doing plyometrics last week under coach John Aquino. “Nagpa-plyo ako ngayon, and sa awa ng Diyos okay naman. Wala namang pain na nararamdaman. Sana di na bumalik `yung back pain,” said the shooting guard out of University of the East. Yap admitted the therapy sessions cost him a hefty sum, but added the cost was worth it as he feels healthy enough to once again help San Mig bid for the Governors Cup championship. “Mahal din dahil Euro and binayad ko. Pero siyempre para naman sa health mo, gagawin mo lahat para makabalik. At least okay naman, `yung tightness sa likod nawala na,” he added. The 31-year-old San Mig stalwart is coming off career-low averages of 12 points and 3.2 rebounds in the Commissioner’s Cup, which saw the Mixers yield their crown to eventual champion Alaska Aces. Yap shot an abysmal 18.9 percent from the field during the best-of-five semifinal series against the Aces as his injured back limited his mobility. He later decided to sit out Game Four of the series, which San Mig lost, 78-83, to bow out of the title race.
