Palagummi Sainath is a renowned journalist and a photojournalist with an experience and expertise in covering rural affairs.A former rural affairs editor at THE HINDU. He has spent an average of 270 days in an year in the poorest villages of India since 1993. His reporting of Argarian crisis in the country became instrumental in pushing the government to move towards programmes and policies like the firm loan weaver, the firm crisis packeges. His reporting has also contributed to perceptions of and policy directions in the development of the Natioanal Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, considered to be a key development in public policy. His other works include a nation-wide project on Dalits, an ongoing project on the nations last living freedom fighters, The FOOT SOILDERS OF FREEDOM, and building a comprehensive online archive - the peoples archive of rural India(PARI) that aims at capturing the everyday lives of the people from rural India. Sainaths work has been recognized globally and he has won several awards some of which include the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay, Boerma Prize etc. His book Everybody loves a good draught has been published in 1996 and it was a non-fiction best seller by an Indian author.
