Palampur 2 August. Twin meetings of Extension Council and Research Council were organized at CSK H.P. Agriculture University, here today. Dr.K.K.Katoch, Vice-Chancellor, while chairing the meetings said that farmer was the main focus of his University in its all research and extension education programmes. The Vice-Chancellor informed that in addition to regular programmes, the Directorate of Extension Education and eight Farm Science Centres (Krishi Vigyan Kendras) have been asked to adopt and demonstrate new scientific technology in one village each. He told that biggest challenge was to enhance quality food production on ever decreasing farm land so the farmers will have to utilize services from all agencies and sources. The University has developed twenty improved farm tools and these were being made available by the State department of agriculture. The university was making available around 600 quintal breeder seed to the department of agriculture for further multiplication at its farms. Dr.K.K.Katoch informed that all Krishi Vigyan Kendras have adopted two poly-houses each in all development blocks of Himachal Pradesh. He also told about the regular training programmes for all those farmers and unemployed youth who are keen to adopt poly-house cultivation. The Vice-Chancellor elaborated about the steps taken by the University for Crop Diversification resulting in tremendous increase in vegetable production in the state touching 14 lakh metric tons. The University was also popularizing water harvesting through poly-lined tanks. Dr.Katoch also told that twelve new technologies have been approved and more emphasis will be given to farmer oriented research. He also touched the issues related to soil health, efficient water management, farm mechanization, medicinal and aromatic plants , better livestock management ,etc. The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the perfect coordination between the University and departments of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, etc for quick and easy transfer of latest technology. He assured the members that his University will take all possible steps to fulfill the given mandate and serve the farmers with zest. Dr.N.K.Pathania, Director Extension Education, while presenting the progress report of past one year also elaborated about the future activities to be undertaken. He told that besides 467 training programmes, 39 farmers’ days and nine farmers’ fairs will be organized throughout the State in coming one year. Dr.S.P.Sharma, Director of Research spoke about the research achievements and future plans. Dr.J.C.Rana, Director of Agriculture, Dr.K.S.Pathania, Director Animal Husbandry, Dr.Gurdev Singh, Director, Horticulture, Dr.Gurcharan Singh, Director-cum- Chief Warden Fisheries, Shri Rattan Gautam ,Registrar, Shri Ranjit Singh, Comptroller, Dr.S.S.Kanwar, Students’ Welfare Officer, University deans, nominated members and progressive farmers Messers Ram Swaroop, Sabo Ram, Tej Singh Thakur, Kuldeep Singh, etc. actively participated in the deliberations.
