Palette vs. Palate vs. Pallet English can be hard, even for native speakers. Most people speaking English today still get confused about the difference between these three words. Try to focus on the spelling and make some associations to learn them. Palette -> the flat board that painters use to mix colours on. 1 L, 2 Ts. Think of a French painter. The French say et and have the silent te at the end of many French words. Palate -> the flat roof of your mouth or the sense of taste. The adjective palatable means tasty. Look at the picture below and remember the spelling like this: you have ONE soft palate and ONE hard palate = 1 L, 1 T Also palATE contains the word ATE, past tense of eat which you do with your mouth. Pallet -> a flat transport structure used to support goods. Think of the double ll resembling the parallel wooden planks that most pallets are made out of = 2 Ls, 1 T, no E at the end.
