Palm oil. Some interested parties, i.e. palm oil producers and their biggest clients, try to cover ecocides and biodiversity destruction under the small umbrella of RSPO. Which, by chance, is the sponsor of this and other articles published from the once reputable newspaper The Guardian. Yet, their theoretical sustainability doesnt consider a few open questions: 1) land grabbing, food sovereignty. Palm oil cultivations seem to be the primary cause of human rights abuses all over the concerned areas. From SE Asia (recently, Cambodia and Myanmar) to Latin America (Honduras and Amazons in the latest reports on farmlandgrab.org), Sub-Saharian Africa (from Ethiopia to Central Africa, up to Sierra Leone, Liberia), 2) ecocide, deforestations, biodiversity destruction. Whats the track record of RSPO members? Which percentage of global palm oil production is now covered by RSPO certifications? How much does the increase of global demand affect new unsustainable palm oil cultivations? Whos responsible for the latters? Palm oil, Out of our Foods! Please dont hesitate to sign the petition launched on Change.org from Il Fatto Alimentare and Great Italian Food Trade. We do Care! :)
