Palmyra Island - openings available to operate! QRZ DX reports this past week that Laurie Moore, Director of Palmyra Program, states, [excerpts from an E-mail in a response about inquires about Amateur Radio operations/HAM Radio operations on Palmyra Atoll] Working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service we have developed a plan to accommodate these requests and are able to offer a maximum of two such trips in Winter 2016. Our goal is to facilitate access to The Nature Conservancys (TNC) preserve on Cooper Island at Palmyra Atoll in a manner that is fair, and with minimal impact to the preserve and station operations. Available time slots are January 11-26th, 2016 (includes set-up, transmit, and tear down), and February 1-16th, 2016 (includes set-up, transmit, and tear down). The TNC will allow up to 12 amateur radio operators. TNC will make arrangements for travel to/from Palmyra via chartered jet service. TNC will provide access to double occupancy cabins with three prepared meals and snacks daily, shower house and toilet block room/board/electrical power, fuel and occasional recreational activity, such as hikes to observe historical sites or wildlife. Total estimated costs 176,000 USD. OPDX
