Paramedic Program taking applications [Summersville, W. Va.] New River Community and Technical College is accepting applications for the new Paramedic Certificate Program on the Nicholas County Campus in Summersville, W. Va. Classes for the 2013-14 Cohort will begin on Aug. 19. The Paramedic Program is an intensive full-time four-semester certificate program designed to prepare students for careers as paramedics in a variety of healthcare settings as well as preparing and making them eligible to participate in the National Registry for EMTs testing program leading to national certification. The curriculum provides students with classroom, lab, field and clinical experiences in a variety of emergency care environments and facilities. Interested applicants will need to take pre-entry exams and complete the screening process to include background checks, health and drug screenings as well as other application paperwork prior to Aug. 16. Fifteen students will be accepted along with five alternates. Mandatory program requirements include a valid State of West Virginia or NREMT-EMT Certification; must be eligible for or have completed Math 101 and English 101; must successfully complete a Basic Life Support (BLS) cognitive and psychomotor exam; and must participate in entrance interview with EMS faculty. The classroom portion of the program will be taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Times for the internship portion of the program, which will take place in the summer and fall of 2104, will vary depending on hospital placement.
