Paramedic´s Symbol this symbol is called the "Star of Life" and represents emergency medical services as a whole. each part of the star represents a different part of the emergency activation system. the star of life was designed by Leo R. Schwartz, chief of the EMS branch, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). each of the six "points" of the star represents an aspect of the EMS System: detection, reporting, response, on scene care, care in transit, and transfer to definitive care. the snake rapped around the staff seen in the center of the symbol represents the staff of aesculapius. according to greek mythology Aesculapius, son of the greek god Apollo, had supposedly learned the art of healing from the centaur chero. the story goes on to say that Zeus - king of the greek gods; fearful that because of Aesculapius knowledge of healing, all men might be rendered immortal, struck him down with a thunderbolt. History tells us that Aesculapius was worshiped by many greeks as a sort of god of healing and medicine. This symbol is today used to represent the profession of medicine as a whole. So there you go! Kind of cool huh? have a nice day!
