Paraphrase of synopsis from the last 3 Andy Stanley sermons about being prepared to defend your faith (in short statements). I believe Jesus died for MY sins and rose from the dead. I believe because Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James and Paul said so. Since they do not reference the destruction of the Jewish temple in AD 70, their writings were complete within 40 years of Jesus resurrection. They were eyewitnesses and friends of hundreds of eyewitnesses. Another short answer to a common question: If God removed evil from the world, He would have to begin with me. (From Deb: I know all this leaves out personal relationship with the God of love, the Master Design argument, and the whole prophetic nature of the Old Testament books. But the point was talk about how the one event in history affects you and briefly define the historical veracity of that event - that Jesus lives!)
