Parents, This email is to remind you that we have two extremely important meetings coming up, and to ask for your assistance. As you know, Monday, September 22 at 7 PM, City Council will be voting on our new facility project. I know many of you have comitted to being in attendance. I need an email from each of you who are willing to speak on behalf of the school. I know some of you intend to speak and know what you are going to say, while others have said that they would like speaking points from me. If you are willing to speak, but would like me to provide you with speaking points, please include that in your email. [email protected] The second meeting I want to tell you about is on Tuesday, September 23 at 5 PM. We have submitted an application to the School District for a grades 6-8 middle school to open with the new facility. I know many of you have younger children and have personally asked me to explore this option. The district intends to deny our application at the Board meeting Tuesday night. In their recommendation for denial, they include two statements that should anger you, as parents. They state that our ... application raised substantial concerns about the applicant’s ability to operate a quality charter school. And that they do ...not consider approval of the Somerset College Preparatory Academy Middle School application to be in the best interests of our students or the community. We are an A rated school with some of the highest scores in the district. I am asking for a showing of parents at the District Board Meeting Tuesday evening and am asking that parents and students speak on our behalf.
