Parents need to make choices that are as parents, not trying to be the childs best friend. Families also need to set standards based on their Biblical beliefs. I might not be under the same conviction about something as you, but you need to consider what God is speaking to your heart about these family choices. This is a good article showing how a mother makes these choices. Again, what is right for this mom might not be the same for your family, but the process of setting standards is the same.
